Does Saving Make One Rich ??

It was an arguement,I stood for the fact that every rich guy must have saved to get to where he or she is,but got opposed by a friend who said saving doesn't make one rich but investment does ,and I argued that you cannot invest if you don't save because Rome wasn't built in a day,plz I need your suggestions thanks.
