Terrible Experience At Ikoyi Marriage Registry -14th Feb/2014

First of all, this is meant to be a FEDERAL registry.

I was beyond disappointed. A memorable day meant for joy was marred by touts and corrupt officials at the registry.

1. There was no parking space. Guests were left to the mercy of area boys who collected N500 for parking! People were desperate and had to pay. This was reported to the security at the entrance of the registry and they also demanded for money before anyone was allowed to leave the ikoyi registry car park!

2. The ikoyi marriage registry officials would not move a finger unless you give them money. On your own wedding day! I had to give a small girl 1000 naira to guide us in filling their complex forms! No one was even available to help in filling the legal forms! Mind you, you can't fill this forms on your own, you need to be guided.

3. After hours of waiting, someone had to be given another 1000 naira to have our names called! We had to pay a bribe else we wouldn't have been called!

4. After all the disappointment, I was finally able to smile as I sat in front of the woman officiating the whole affair. Guess what she said when she finished? She said we MUST PAY HER FOR HER Services! I had paid 1000 naira officially for this, and she said that was for government and she needed her own. I grudgingly have her N500, because I was totally out of cash! This useless woman rejected it and placed her hand on my wedding certificate, as if she wasn't going to release it! My parents didn't want to be there any longer and ended up dropping N5000 naira on the table for this woman! I have it all on tape, my sister was recording the whole affair

This is what happens on a daily basis in the ikoyi marriage registry. The corruption is unbelievable !!! In hindsight, I regret giving that woman any money. I regret it. Marriage na marriage. I should have taken night bus to Cotonou and gotten married there. I would have spent less!

Please this must make front page. Nigerians are being harassed and cheated daily in the ikoyi marriage registry.
